Wing Loong

Nam Loong's infamous sister, hidden away in Chinatown, is another Melbourne special. The decor is cheap, the lights are bright and the specials on the walll are presented on bold colours but the highlight of Wing Loong is sitting amongst like-minded chowhounds looking to stuff themselves with a quick, cheap meal.

The service is geared towards speed, with most meals served within 5 minutes of ordering. Wing Loong also have a particular style. At a recent visit a friend ordered the Hokkein soup noodles. When the waiter put down the bowl he couldn't remember whether the dish was right, so he asked whether my friend had tried this before and without waiting for a response disappeared for the rest of the evening.

The soup noodles are above average, the bbq pork and roast duck with fried egg on rice is spectacular and everything else is delicious. There are better restaurants and kitchens that use far fresher ingredients but Wing Loong services an entertaining market in the heart of Melbourne and the city would be far worse without it.
