I have been reading about favourite Melbourne haunts yesterday, and a comment on the Feelin' Foodie website caused me to revisit Nam Loong, a favourite haunt of foodies, students and other thrifty individuals.
With only fond memories of this fine establishment you can understand my surprise when I came across a scandalous article in The Age dated 19th August, 2004.
The report stated that on November 19 2003 a "worker from a nearby hotel bought takeaway that included sweet and sour chicken". "After the man found a dead cockroach in the meal he started coughing and spat the food out". The Age reported that two days later the restaurant was inspected and extensive "accumulated grease, dirt and food scraps were found with cockroaches in the dining area and mouse droppings throughout the premises".
Camy Shanghai Dumpling & Noodle Restaurant also experienced similar trauma several years ago. It is pleasing note that both premeses have dealt severely with these issues and continue to churn out cheap, quality food.
