More craft than food, the Alice Springs Markets on Todd Mall still offer several culinary gems and some other great foodie opportunities.
Every second Sunday (weekly during July) after January, culminating in a night market in mid-December, the Alice Springs markets are advertised in the Centralian Advocate on Fridays before market day. The highlights of the market are the first stall near the Lane Chilean and Vietnamese Fusion, Tinh and Lan at the Alice Springs Market Garden with fresh fruit and vegetables and some great fresh spring rolls, the bratwurst at Keller's and the coffee at Du Yu Coffee. In summer there is a decent mango slushy available. Chilean and Vietnamese Fusion serves only fresh vegetarian food. They do not cook with the five pungent herbs and their food is a great option as there are mainly deep fried alternatives.
Apart from the variety of socks, art, books, plants, religious paraphernalia and hippy stalls selling jewellery the other pleasure involves having a long Sunday coffee at the Lane while watching the market goers move on.

I visited Australia twice in 1993. I stopped over in Alice Springs airport. I bought a painting from a nice Aboriginal lady who was sitting on the floor of the air port painting. I would love to buy more art, but from everything I read it is too costly now. It is a shame that the Aborigines have been cheated out of what is rightfully theirs. Can I buy paintings directly from the artist and pay the money to them? How do I tell if the work is authentic? can you put me in touch with an Aboreiginal artist?
