Alice Springs Beanie Festival

On Friday 30 June the Alice Springs Beanie Festival celebrated 10 years with a series of performances, speeches and a book launch at the Araluen Galleries Foyer and outside courtyard. There were also competition winner announcements and general hysteria.

But it was for the food that I attended and the result was mixed. The spanakopita-like torte was great value at $4 and very tasty (although a little heavy on the salt), the dhal was average and pricey, the ever-reliable snags in bread were anything but and the vanilla slice was too custardy and too creamy. So while there were lots of complaints from this grumbling foodie the positives were the little cakes and the spanakopita.

The problem was that as the night continued much reference was made to the famous Lumberjack cake and its recipe. But there was no Lumberjack cake to be found.
