Krispy Kreme is now in Melbourne and interest is growing.
While the antithesis of much of what Foodie believes in, the doughnuts are high quality, the opposite of much fast food. Regardless, the obsession with the Krispy Kreme brand and ratesof consumption are great worries. Krispy Kreme follows a smapling and PR campaign similar to Marykateandashley. And it has worked. Krispy Kreme Australia worked with Maverick Communications and PR company Hill & Knowlton in running the highly successful campaign.
Foodie had an insider delivering Krispy Kreme doughnuts, who revealed some layers of this societal problem over May and June 2006. Instead of focusing on the media frenzy, the fellow foodie provided tales of gluttony, desperation and joy. Law Students and Small Business alike could not get enought of the pre-Krispy Kreme Melbourne opening hype. A patron allegedly offered $500 to skip the queue on opening morning, and mounted police were forced to control the eager patrons.
See also Krispy Kreme Sydeny Airport and Krispy Kreme Westfield Fountain Gate. Two examples of this marketing strategy that has sent civilised Australia wild.

In my expert opinion the Krispy Kreme range of doughnuts ranges in quality. The famous Original Glazed I feel is a good solid doughnut - however it's certainly not their finest.
That goes to the Glazed Cruller. While I will certainly be making my way to Narre Warren to have a few, I've found that the Krispy Kreme range outside of their glazed range has glaring weaknesses. While I have not had the doughnuts fresh cooked, I found the dough in their filled-non-glazed doughnuts to be a fraction bready. Not light like some counterparts. I'll be verry interested to taste some fresh samples.

Dear Felicia
Krispy Kreme doughnuts were founded by Vernon Rudolph. Vernon Rudolph worked for his uncle, Ishmael Armstrong. Ishmael Armstrong purchased a secret recipe for yeast-raised doughnuts and a shop on Broad Street in Paducah, Kentucky from Joseph LeBeouf, a French Chef. Vernon Rudolph began selling the yeast doughnuts in Paducah and delivered them on his bicycle.
The doughnut operation moved to Nashville Tennessee and other family members joined to meet the demand. Vernon Rudolph sold his interest in the Nashville store and in 1937 opened a doughnut shop in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and began selling directly to grocery stores and eventually to customers. This was the first Krispy Kreme store. The Krispy Kreme store was located in a rented building on South Main Street in Winston-Salem in what is now called historic Old Salem.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts are made with: doughnut mix, water and yeast. The yeast makes the doughnuts light.
Krispy Kreme also sells coffee, ice cream (in Australia), milk drinks and ice blends.
