Asiana

Open since 2002, Asiana is a fine Chinese restaurant with delicious, upwardly priced food. It has been a successful venture based on subtle flavours, conservative surrounds and attentive service. Asiana has avoided the heavy flavours that dominate suburban Chinese restaurants, infusing an Australian influence with Chinese cooking. The barramundi in soy sauce with ginger is exquisite, and the entrée scallops is unmissable. The various steak dishes melt in your mouth, and the steamed greens in oyster sauce harmonise flavour and texture.

Food-related superlatives could be repeated ad naseum, unfortunately there is a price for culinary heaven. A meal for two should cost more than $30 unless one of the participants has snacked beforehand.

Another minor criticism is that the menu is possibly a little sparse, although try the specials whenever possible. Avoid the deep fried squid (or deep fried in general) at Asiana, as it is done better elsewhere.

The service is attentive, although upstairs it can be a little claustrophobic, especially if there is a roudy bunch dining alongside. If possible eat downstairs.
