The busy Aubergine cafe was on recommendation from Philiipe from Pirates Backpackers in Fremantle.
We strolled up South Terrace for 15 short blocks before locating Aubergine, opposite from Falduzzi which was also packed. It was jam packed on the Sunday morning, with 6 groups waiting for tables when we arrived. We sat out the front waiting to order a pre-breakfast coffee but were scowled off by a Fremantle mother who was protecting three seats, one for herself, one for her coffee and one for her imaginary child. Not a great way to begin breakfast.
Over the West Australian, once seated, we poured over the menu. All egg dishes starting from $7.50 and additional extras always annoys me, but I remained comforted by the size and quality of the meals on other tables.
We settled for an orange and ginger juice with bircher muesli and eggs with home made baked beans and bacon. The juice was good but small, while the bircher muesli was delicious but a little bit sweet. It could have done with more rhubarb.
The eggs were velvety and buttery, cooked properly, with respect to the ingredients. The bacon was delicious as were the baked beans.
The room buzzed for the 90 minutes that we patronised the cafe. The tables were almost all reseated during this time, as the staff were run off their feet.
