Beyond India

A great night at Beyond India on the back of an exhausting food jaunt to Canberra (there was some other work involved). We couldn't get into Bombay Bicycle Club at the last minute, so made the trek to North Adelaide instead. Considering the masala dosa and the vegetarian jalfrezi, the waiter responded to my plea of "If you had one night in Adelaide, what would you eat at Beyond Inda?".

To have a perfect evening, he replied, you will need to change your order. Consider the mixed entree with samosas, chicken tikka, fish tikka, tandoor prawns and baked paneer. Then work your way through the mains. The spiced rack of lamb ( a Beyond India specialty ) is acceptable, but consider the malai kofta. And forget the vegetarian jalfrezi and go for the beef, for the juices make the dish. The juices are worthless without the beef. It's the juices.... and he trailled off.

After refusing to let me order plain naan, he slowly moved from the table muttering, and then it will be perfect.....

And it nearly was?

Mietta's Review
Marrying the rich, lavish flavours of Northern India to the spicy exotic flavours of the South, there is much choice of textures flavours and moods. Vegetable offerings are substantial and diverse. Paneer (homemade cheese) with pureed soinach is a treat with naan. Lamb Roganjosh with Kashmiri pilau, a great, though rich success. Mains $15, specialities $20.
