Bistro Moore Olympic Hotel

The Olympic Hotel offers the Australian Poker League but it was for Bistro Moore that we left the Sydney Swans v Western Bulldogs game for a quick meal.

Just a minute away from the SCG, on Moore Park Road, the Olympic Hotel was selling great smelling hot dogs out of the window before the game. This had disappeared by the time the siren was sounding and the PA system blaring Cheer, Cheer the Red and the White....

Much to our dismay the kitchen was closing as we entered the Bistro Moore. We had missed out on our entree choices of lightly fried Hawkesbury River calamari with rocket dressed in smoked garlic aioli and penne pasta tossed in a ragu of rabbit, olives, peas and tomato. And the mains of choice, 18th Century Roman dish of braised oxtail with tomato, celery, raisons and pinenuts finished with a little grated bitter chocolate and fried parmesan and bottorga crusted john dory fillets on a Jerusalem artichoke puree with Yarra Valley salmon roe were off as well. But that was not a problem.

Chef Giovanni Spinazzola and his staff cooked us a simple pasta. The pasta was delicious, the tomato was incredibly flavoursome and the the meal fantastic. It was a fine piece of improvisation that was handed with the utmost courtesy.

Of course there was desert and we made up for missing the mains with some great pannacotta and semifreddo crocante. Bistro Moore is a fantastic choice in a city with a lot of missable dining options.
