Blue Chillies is a funky Brunswick St. establishment with a standard menu and good food. I have visited the restaurant a couple of times, each visit leaving satisfied but not enraptured by the dining experience. Traditional Malaysian food is prepared tastily, with lohbak, gado gado, char kwai teow, indian mee goreng and roti the highlights of the meal. Blue Chillies seems to be missing a soul, or something intangible, yet the meals are good enough to warrant a return. The rapid growth of supply of and demand for Asian restaurants means that the currently successful formula employed by Blue Chillies of funky music, minimalist décor and good food may become homogenised.
