What is it about the combination of apple and toffee in this city? Find out what all the fuss is about at this friendly feeling cafe. Warning: do not expect service from the waiters - this is a must remember for most belfast cafes. Keeping this is mind...(visualise filthy cutlery and crockery remaining under your nose the entirity of your stay despite waving down, whistling over, flirtatious glances and bribing gestures) you'll be more than satisfied with your meal here.
The cafe boasts a breakfast, lunch, pizza, bistro and bonus brunch menu and like many belfast cafes has segmented levels and sections to tri-satisfy clientele...Coffee and cake lovers stick to the left, the no-fuss italian interested stick to the heart and upstairs is for those that want their steak rare, their cucumber cool and their chicken cajun. Actually you can sit wherever you want depending on what is available, the busier it gets the higher you will rise.
As they say in Hungary 'the eye is eating too'. Here at Cafe Renoir they are imaginative with food prepartion and users of fine products so that both eyes and mouths will enjoy. Sticking to the heart the daily soups bring unimaginable warmth complimented by two chunky wedges of freshly made soda, potatoe and onion or sundried tomatoe bread. The salads are inventive and satisfying, the sandwiches likewise. The curry at our table was gobbled up with glee. The pasta fulfilled, the grilled chicken made my czech friend very happy indeed. And then comes desert. Please choose the toffee and apple crumble over the wide selection of delicious looking cakes. No cheese cake, tart or chocolate gateau could out do the outer crunch, sweet suprise and slippery inside of this delictable desert. Although the arrangement of homemade muffins and slices look worth a return visit (again).
This is a case I suspect where we have a lot to thank organic ingredients for, some from the family owner's own farm in County Armagh.
