Casa Nostra is definitely an Alice Springs institution. The tableclothes and walls block out the arid landscape of Alice Springs for a couple of hours. Cosa Nostra is regularly packed, with people returning to sample the pizzas and pastas regularly. While the quality of the food is not great the atmosphere and dining experience are immensely satisfying.
There are a couple of decent pizzas, and the Casa Nostra special (half pasta and a piece of veal scallopine) is a hearty meal. The menu is not consistent and requires a couple of visits and some close reading.
Cosa Nostra is famous for its decadent Vanilla Slice and for good reason. On the right night there is a perfect mix of cream, custard and icing sugar that makes it a perfect way to complete a relaxed meal. The Vanilla Slice tends to sell out early, especially on weekends, so order before your mains. Some nights it is topped with far too much cream, but don't be put off, just return another night.
