Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico is a semi-fine dining restaurant in Hutt Street Adelaide. Expect a pretentious middle aged crowd, lots of suits, plenty of jewellry and signfiicant attitude from patrons and staff alike.

Chianti Classico began as a simple pizza and pasta and wine restuarant. It moved to Hutt Street in 2000. Although their intention is to treat you like a guest in our home you have to wonder whether some of the staff have had one pain the ass too many.

We started a festive evening with bruschetta and, to my chagrin, skipped the entrees. So I was left a choice between mains, with little time and basis for decision. I opted for the whole slow cooked half rabbit.

The serving was generous, but the meat a little chewy. Samples of the pasta were more satisfactory. While I may sound derisive, the meal was generally excellent.

I should probably have made a greatful exit, but for some reason I am always compelled to order deserts at work dinners. I decided on the zabaglione over the mocha brulee and waited 20 minutes for the treat to arrive. But nothing prepared me for the zing of the zabaglione cream nor the exceptional gelato underneath. The desert was my second highlight of the week, and surpassed the amalfi pepperoni pizza for its surprise.
