Falduzzi's has moved from a simple pizza cafe to a entertaining and delicious restaurant serving modern Australian food with an Italian influence. Falduzzi's has a simple menu but the servings are generous and the quality good.
The tables are simple wood and the large open room has an earthy feel that is warming on a cold, wintery Fremantle evening. The atmosphere is lively and the restaurant lacks any pretension. On a Saturday night there is entertainment, and a television magically appeared for the Fifa World Cup, Germany 2006. Falduzzi's is about 15 minutes walk from the busy, touristy part of South Terrace and has a more intimate feeling than some of the other Fremantle restaurants.
The entrees are limited and the pizzas are disappointing. The dough is average and while the toppings are well chosen these are no Italian gourmet pizzas. But the mussels and the lamb shanks were both great for mains.
Falduzzi's does not serve Australia's best food, but dining is about more than this, and when the entire restaurant began stamping their feet to a live version of Folsom Prison Blues I felt a level of satisfaction that cannot come from a great meal alone.
