Glick's Cakes & Bagels

The SBS Eating Guide to Melbourne 1997 contends that Glick’s is synonymous with ‘bagel king’. While Aviv may be the holy grail of bagels, Glick’s remains an important bakery in St. Kilda East. Bagels of all varieties are baked at the wholesale store on Dandenong Road and transported to Carlisle Street each morning. Seasame and onion, chocolate chip and even cinnamon and raisin bagels are fresh daily, as well as a range of biscuits that appeal to SBS Hebrew broadcaster Uri Palti. Although appreciative of the fine craftsmanship of Mendel Glick I do still have a soft spot for the boiled bagels of Aviv.

What Glick’s does is serve fine food and great bread day after day. And that is something to be thankful for.

There is an undeniable community feel at Glick’s and the pre-made gefilte fish, salads, blintzes and latkes are great for snacks or served before or after dinner.
