Feelin' Foodie

Indian Palace

Indian Palace is another Indian restaurant. Much like Bhoj in the Docklands, Indian Palace is hoping that Foodies shift from traditional Indian eateries to modern, stylish, yet slightly charmless, abodes.

White walls and minimalist decor are the surrounds in which happy patrons scoff down curries, biryanis and samosas. Shalimar (on Bay Street) has been a Foodie family favourite for years, but one of its downfalls has remained its Tandoor chicken (the tandoor lamb chops - burra kebabs - are magnificent). Indian Palace corrects this, but adds little else. The Chicken Tikka was exceptionally succulent, but the tandoor paste was coated too thinkly. The onion bhaji was tasty and the burra kebabs were delicious. But the mains disappointed. Butter Chicken was recommended to us, how much of this was the ''gringo factor'' I cannot be sure. It was good, but not outstanding. The other dishes followed this rule.

Indian Palace has moved from Balmain, Sydney, to Melbourne. It has made a solid start, but faces great competition.
