There are thousands of reasons to live in the desert. The cool breeze at night. The fierce starlight. The ongoing struggle for survival. But however a town markets itself, it is not worth living in without a good bakery.
Still cooped up in Alice Springs, foodie and friends visited the Infinity Bakery in Darlinghurst to satsify a long, deep stomach growl.
"One of the great culinary miracles of the world is that if you look at a basic loaf of bread, you know that the only things in it are water and bread. And perhaps salt" says Philip Searle in an interview with the Syndey Morning Herald. But despite the quote, the bread was fantastic. The loaves were crispy on the outside, but with a strong flavour. The peach tart was spectacular and the tuna baguette surprisingly good. But the almond croissant was a big disappointment. Infinity is situated in of the Sydney food streets, and its a good option for any local who wants to venture out from the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere just down the road.

As a local I finally dropped in to see what Infinity offered. I decided on some bread and a coffee. Unfortunately, my experience of their delights was marred when I realised (after I left the shop) that the shop assistant shortchanged me $20. I went back to the shop and the girl, ever so politely, told me she had given me the correct change and stood her ground. Consequently, one loaf of turkish bread and coffee cost me $28. Yes, it was nice bread but there's more to success than the product. I won't be going back.
