Martinelli is typical local pizza. The taste is average, the prices are average, but the distance that needs to be covered to hit a top-notch pizza joint is too great when pizza cravings arrive. New owners, or a new kid throwing ham and cheese or smearing tomato paste rescued Martinelli from oblivion. Suddenly the bi-monthly experience that is takeaway pizza became pleasurable. Juicy pineapple, rich tomato and cheesy cheese coated thickish bases in a flavour explosion that was not unpalatable.
Sure the pizza is not world’s-best practice, but it is satisfying, especially after an exercise intensive day. The lasagne was probably the best dish on the menu, and at around $8 is half the price of a large pizza. The thick white sauce topping the thin pasta slices and Bolognese sauce is a highlight. I edit this comment with a heavy heart. The lasagne is not what it used to be, although the décor is nicer. The Hawaiian and Margarita pizzas are also well-prepared. Steer clear of the vegetarian and the Vegyman gourmet.
