Nam Loong (1)

Nam Loong (1) was a recommendation from a man in a dark alley and a friend. And it was a saviour for a number of years.

Cheap Chinese food does not have to be bad. Nam Loong (1) is great. Avoid it on a warm afternoon, but at night, jostle with taxi drivers, Asian students, chowhounds, foodies and the rest of the public for the BBQ Pork Buns (Char Sui Bau), the Dim Sums and the temperamental Prawn Dumplings. The later the better.

Sharing the same menu but more bustle than namesake Nam Loong (2) (a street away) go for any of the 181 items on the menu. Most meals cost $6-7, although special dishes go for as high as $11-14.

While the ingredients are not as fine as those used at the Flower Drum and they are better than one might expect for the prices paid.

The Char Sui Bau is known around Melbourne. Almost a meal, if you have a hunger and only a couple of dollars Nam Loong (1) is the only place to go.

Nam Loong is great! It is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat if you happen to come into the city around 7pmish and all the restaurants are too busy.
