North Fitzroy Star

In February 2004 the North Fitzroy Star offered a Vietnamese menu served lunchtimes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and it is outstanding. Located between Brunswick & Nicholson Streets, the North Fitzroy Star is attractively decorated and offers a serenity and grace lacking in many establishments.

The Vietnamese menu was refined, offering water grass, Vietnamese coleslaw, scallops and cuttlefish. The cuttlefish was particularly good. The lunch left this consumer full but eager for more, the same feeling that traditional Japanese tea kaiseki aims to generate. Remarkably effective it is too. I am watering for water grass as I write.

The Lamingtons at the North Fitzroy Star bar are decadent, but at $6 way past my budget. I should have asked first.
