Within suburban Kew is hidden one of Melbourne’s great Japanese restaurants. Fomerly a butcher’s shop, Ocha is regularly booked out weeks in advance. The tiny shopfront barely fits 30 people into a gorgeous room. There are two dinner sittings and I would suggest booking for both.
The food is unbelievable. It is one of the great Japanese restaurants in Melbourne. My meal there was an eat-until-you-drop selection of sushi and sashimi. The eel was the highlight. Grilled to perfection with that age-old quality of deliciously crispiness on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside several plates were devoured within a one hour sitting.
The traditional dishes are spectacular as is everything else on the menu. The only problem is that oversized gluttons may find it cramped. More has been endured for less. The meal is accompanied by green tea, Ocha.
