Feelin' Foodie

The Farmers Arms

The Farmers Arms serves the best food in Daylesford. It was worth the evening drive from Melbourne for the relaxed atmosphere, the wine, locally brewed beer, dips, zatar, and of course the food.

A late arrival because of traffic and rain left all comers hungry. And so a mezze platter was ordered, which further whetted our appetite. Somehow certain country pubs can create an atmosphere that it casual and relaxed but not inappropriate for the fantastic food that is being served.

The choice of mains wasn't sufficient to narrow my shortlist, so I focused only on the specials menu and went for the rabbit. The meat was cooked perfectly. Tender, soft.

The other meals were all heartily consumed, with the duck a highlight.

The only negative was the $17 for every dessert, and a fuel crisis that caused a late night stop in Gisborne on the contented way home.

The Farmers Arms Website
The Farmers Arms is a country pub with heart & soul. The heart is where real locals rub elbows with city folk in one of the friendliest bars in the country. The soul is a wood paneled dining room that "is one of the best foodie pubs in Victoria" (The Age Good Food Guide 2005).

Owners Simon Bevanda & Vanessa Kalamistrakis, with chef Andrew Dennis on the pans, have maintained a warm space with an inviting ambience serving modern Mediterranean cuisine featuring local, fresh produce and carefully selected regional & not so local wines.
