Thy Thy 1 has a few things going for it, it is incredibly cheap, some of the food is very good and the special drinks are fantastic. Enough superlatives, eating at Thy Thy 1 is pleasurable, but Minh Tan 2 is a couple of hops down the road. The reverse Flowerdrum predicament applies. How can one eat at Thy Thy 1 when Minh Tan provides such a huge jump in quality for a small price hike? Thy Thy 1 fills a necessary role, providing for the budget eater, adequately, but for flavour it lags behind. The spring rolls and vermicelli rolls were both tasty, and the various soups fresh and flavoursome. The atmosphere is friendly and relatively quiet with a strong western clientele.
Thy Thy 1 received some famous reviews in the late 1990s, with the vermicelli and spring rolls the highlight of Victoria St. according to the Age Cheap Eats Guide 1997. Thy Thy 1 may be resting on its laurels.
