I love this post from Taste Wars, searching for the best croissant in New York, although I would add Balthazar to the top of this list:

Bouchon Bakery – Time Warner Center, Columbus Circle
Chez Laurence – 38th & Madison
Patisserie Claude – W. 4th between Sixth & Seventh Aves
Petrossian – Seventh Ave between 57th & 58th Streets
